Indian Constitution day on November 26th

The government, which is focused on pushing crucial legislation like the key reform measure the Goods and Services Tax bill, has said it is “ready to discuss all issues including that of the so-called intolerance though it falls in the domain of states”.

“To make the Constitution of a nation like India, it is not easy”. He acknowledged that Nehru was great to have accepted a point made by opposition in Parliament, a feat that he believes comes out of the feeling that Parliament is “family”. He said Ambedkar had felt that reservation for weaker sections was a “socio-political necessity”, and he made it clear that there would be no dilution in the policy.

To spread the importance of the Indian Constitution, India is observing November 26 as the Constitution Day of India.

He said there can not be enough praise for the constitution.

“Hard work of many leaders has gone into shaping India”. He added that the spirit of the parliamentary debates and Constitution is not about one or two individuals, but about the entire country. He also said that Ambedkar should not be seen just as a Dalit leader. “This shows his vision”.

The House vowed to protect the sovereignty, unity and integrity of the country and the democratic, socialist and secular character.

The prime minister’s tribute to Nehru was in contrast to the earlier sparring between Congress and BJP leaders over the legacy of Nehru and Ambedkar. The day has also been declared as the Constitution Day to spread awareness about the its architect Dr B.R. Ambedkar. If it was an ordinary individual he would have been bitter.

“It is proposed that these missions/posts may undertake translation of the constitution in local language and consider its distribution among academic and research institutions, parliaments and Indology centres”, it said. “They are being deliberately attacked”, Congress President said.

“The sanctity of the Constitution, it is our responsibility”.

“Democracy is strengthened when there is consensus and discussion”. The way should be of agreement.

Referred to the Vajpayee government losing the trust vote by one vote, Modi said it “accepted heights of democracy”. “It is inbuilt in the Indian system”, he said amidst protests from the Congress.

Months after the government faced criticism over the RSS chief’s call for a committee to look into who should have quotas and for how long, Mr. Modi said that it was “our duty” to assure the underprivileged of the opportunities the Constitution provided them. “We are taking decisions and working for welfare of the labour class”, Modi said.

Participating in a debate on “Commitment to Constitution” in the Lok Sabha, Naidu also pitched for a common civil code and inter-linking of rivers.
