Indian extremists attack PIA office in New Delhi
The office of the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) in New Delhi was attacked by members of a Hindu extremist organisation on Thursday, Indian media reported.
The attackers belonged to the right-wing group Hindu Mahasabha.
Talking to ARY News, PIA spokesperson Daniyal Gillani said a fenzy mob entered the office and chanted slogans against Pakistan.
According to eye witnesses, some armed culprits barged into the PIA town office, ransacked equipments in the building and maltreated the office staff.
The spokesman said that the Pakistan High Commission to India Abdul Basit has been informed about the attack.
The incident comes at a time when foreign secretary-level talks between Pakistan and India, scheduled for this month, stand threatened after an attack on an Indian Air Force base in Pathankot earlier this month.
Moreover, in January 2015, Indian authorities had sent a closure notice to the New Delhi office of PIA in a move that could further strain the volatile relations between the two archrivals.
“We look forward to the visit of the Pakistani Special Investigation Team (SIT)”.
