Indian man kills 14 members of his family
After carrying out the killings, Warerkar reportedly committed suicide. The accused has been identified as Hansil Warekar, who stayed with his family in a single storied bungalow in Ghodbadar road, police said.
But the Indian Express newspaper said the chartered accountant stabbed his victims after they went to bed, having all made a decision to spend the night at the house.
The incident happened around midnight on Saturday, following a family celebration at the house in the Thane district just outside Mumbai.
The lone survivor of the gruesome incident is a sister of Warekar, who survived the attack.
“He killed others with a knife and hanged himself”.
“There were three rooms in the house, while he was in a room with his wife and two daughters on the first floor, his parents and sisters were in separate rooms on the ground floor”, said the police joint commissioner.
“We came running. His sister was shouting from the window for help”, said one.
“The reason behind the killings is still unknown as there is only one survivor and we haven’t recorded her statement as of now because she is in a state of shock”, Dumbare told media.
“The family appears to be well known in the area”.
Thane Police spokesman Gajanan Laxman Kabdule told Sky News that officers are still yet to speak with the sole survivor of the massacre.
“We don’t know much details because investigations are still going on by the police”.
