Indian PM Modi accepts PM Nawaz’s invitation to visit Pakistan
According to reports, Prime Minister Modi will, during the talks, strongly raise India’s concerns on terror and the release of Lashkar-e-Taiba leader Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhavi with Pakistan.
The two leaders also jointly condemned terrorism, and agreed on a slew of measures to increase dialogues, including increasing religious tourism, freeing captured fishermen, and talks at DG BSF, and DGMO (Directorate General ofAMilitaryAOperations) as well as meeting between national security advisers of both countries.
Indian officials had previously refused to confirm Modi’s participation at the next summit of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), which is being held in Pakistan’s capital.
Modi and Sharif were last together in Kathmandu in November last for the SAARC Summit but they did not have a bilateral meeting because of acrimony between the two countries at that time.
“[Our prime minister] was made to walk through a long corridor towards Modi’s chair/throne”.
It said India had agreed to send more evidential voice recordings against suspects held in Pakistan for their alleged roles in the attacks on Mumbai, India’s commercial hub.
It was decided in the talks that the trial for Mumbai terror attack, which is going on in Pakistan, will be expedited.
This will mark Modi’s first visit to Pakistan after becoming prime minister.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, left, shakes hands with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi ahead of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Ufa, Russia, Friday, July 10, 2015.
“It is unfortunate that Modi ji met Nawaz Sharif today”.
“Discussions over the issue has been underway for quite some time, until previous year, the SCO finally reached a consensus to accept the applications of India and Pakistan to become full-fledged members”, it said.
“There’s an terrible lot of kids living in that part of the world who I think everybody wants to make sure they have a better future”. Islamabad denies the charge.
That meeting was scheduled almost three months after Mr Modi had met Mr Sharif here on May 27, a day after assuming office, when the two leaders had agreed that their Foreign Secretaries would remain in touch to explore how the two neighbours could move forward in various areas.
While Sharif did attend Modi’s inauguration in May a year ago, relations soon cooled amid flare-ups in violence along the border in Kashmir, the Himalayan region which is claimed by both countries.
