Indian police say toddler, 5-year-old raped in New Delhi
While Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal is washing his hands clean and blaming the prime minister (has he forgotten the days of his passionate protests after the Nirbhaya rape in which he had openly attacked Sheila Dikshit for being insensitive?).
A two-and-half-year-old was gang-raped by two goons on a motorbike in Delhi’s Nangloi area while she was watching the Ram Leela. The girl was later found at a park around 300 metres away from her house.
The victims are both recovering from their injuries.
In the second incident, a five-year-old girl was gangraped by three people – her house owner, a co-tenant and a common friend of theirs – in East Delhi’s Anand Vihar on Friday night.
Locals caught the accused Prakash, Rewati and Sitaram after they heard the shrieks of the girl.
A two-and-a-half year’s old girl and a five years old girl have reportedly been gang-raped in separate shocking attacks in Delhi in the past 24 hours.
Kejriwal visited the hospitals where the victims were being treated and said that his government has the requisite funds to take control of the police and provide security. “Hope PM and his LG don’t subscribe to it”, the chief minister said. “They should instead be worrying about security of women”, Kejriwal said after visiting one of the victims at a hospital here.
He said that the central government has control over Delhi’s 84,000 police, the largest city police force in the world.

Later, tests confirmed that the girl was subjected to several assaults, he added. Until when will girls continue to be brutalised in the Indian capital? India recorded 36,735 rape cases a year ago, with 2,096 of them in Delhi. “The idea behind the Act was to help us earn our livelihood without any fear, but the provisions notified by the AAP government is not vendor-friendly”, said Arbind Singh, national coordinator, National Association of Street Vendors of India (NASVI) to the Times of India.
Maliwal said she meant to meet Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor and the police commissioner to seek coordinated action for preventing such crimes.
