Indiana camp: Girl, 11, dies after tree falls on cabin
No one else was hurt.
An 11-year-old girl was killed overnight when a tree fell onto a cabin at Camp Livingston in the Bennington area of Switzerland County, camp officials said.
No other campers or staffers were injured in the accident, according to the Dispatch. “The family was notified immediately”.
NBC 5 affiliate WCMH-TV reports she was a student at Cassingham Elementary School.
It’s not yet known how many campers were inside the cabin, but three adults were with them.
Parents who wish to get in touch with their children can do so Tuesday morning, they wrote. We have resources and professionals at camp to help everyone deal with this tragedy. Should you need to reach us directly, you can reach Aaron Slovin, Executive Director, at aaron@camplivingston.com.
For over 90 years the scenic sleepaway camp has provided Jewish children and teens an environment to “gain self-esteem and confidence” and create friendships while participating in waterfront activities and partaking in sports and creative performance arts, according to the camp’s website.
The man was floating on his back when he felt a tug on his foot, then felt his foot taken into the fish’s mouth. The girl is from Columbus, according to the news station.
The sheriff’s office say the building has been evacuated because of a bomb threat.
