Indiana clears Planned Parenthood of wrongdoing after videos
Planned Parenthood officials say they are not breaking any laws and denies all of Daleiden’s allegations.
Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood, issued an apology after the first video was released, saying the video did not communicate compassion. CNN reached out to Planned Parenthood on Friday for response. According to the Center for Medical Progress, Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains “does not use digoxin or other feticide in its 2nd trimester procedures” so “any intact deliveries before an abortion are potentially born-alive infants under federal law”.
The case is National Abortion Federation v Center for Medical Progress et al, U.S. District Court, Northern District of California, No. 15-03522.
The statement came as a result of the undercover videos that show how Planned Parenthood is possibly violating federal law with the sale of fetal body parts.
David Daleiden, a leader of the Center for Medical Progress who is also named in the suit, said in a statement that Planned Parenthood and its allies were trying to silence the group and suppress investigative journalism.
The new lawsuit comes shortly after StemExpress, a company which processes fetal tissue, won a temporary restraining order against CMP regarding video footage from a lunch meeting last May. An IBD/TIPP poll this week showed 58% of adults in favor of cutting off funds for Planned Parenthood, vs. 38% opposed.
“We’ve got anywhere from eight to 10 more videos – the exact number could vary, but I predict a dozen, give or take, when everything is said and done”, he said.
The Federalist, a conservative commentary publication, is claiming Planned Parenthood’s alleged attack “looks like an orchestrated PR stunt”.
The Senate could vote on a bill to defund the organization as early as Monday – a bill which is not expected to pass due to lack of support from Democrats and, even if it did, would face a potential White House veto.
Put on the defensive by the release of the videos, Planned Parenthood says it receives only reimbursements for costs of providing tissue donated by women, and that it has done nothing illegal or improper.
This comes from a report from The Hill on a letter sent to Republican leadership in the House.
“Any review of the policy that Planned Parenthood says they implement indicates the views expressed in the videos, or at least the way they’re pictured on the videos is entirely inaccurate”, he added. “Family planning providers are uniquely qualified to provide reproductive health care, and providers have asserted that the “absorption” plan to simply hand off millions of women’s health care simply isn’t feasible”.
