Indiana School Districts Shut Down Following Threats
The local high school and another school were locked down Thursday morning after a threat targeting a Plainfield high school, which turned out to be in another state, school officials said.
Plainville Community School Corporation and Danville Community School Corporation are both closed after separate threats against schools were made.
Danville Police Chief William Wright said, “There is also a third threat that was received early this morning that is tied to the Plainfield [Community] School Corporation threat”.
Plainfield school officials posted a statement to their website saying school will resume January 4 after the start of the new year.
School officials in the in cities of Danville and Plainfield cited concerns about the safety of students and staff in announcing the closures of schools, which comes two days after officials in Los Angeles canceled classes for 640,000 public school students over a threatened attack with bombs and guns that was later deemed a hoax.
All Plainfield Community School Corporation schools will be closed today, Thursday, December 17.
A spokesperson from the FBI confirms that they have been contacted and they are assisting with the investigation. They have been charged with intimidation and may face additional charges.
School districts in Dallas, Houston, Miami and Fort Lauderdale, Florida all received terror threats, but remained open Thursday after the threats were deemed non-credible. “Get ready to go to jail”, he said. “Danville Schools and the Danville Police take these types of situations very seriously”, superintendent Tracey Shafer wrote, adding that school would take place as scheduled with increased police presence.
