INDIANAPOLIS (AP) Brandon Weeden finally gave the Texans some relief in
Hilton, but he was then sacked and the drive stalled.
The Texans would move to about midfield before Alfred Blue would fumble the ball fighting for a few extra yards.
Houston blanked the Colts in the second half and limited Indianapolis to only 190 total yards, including 50 on the ground.
Yates was 6 of 10 with 68 yards and one interception.
Will the Colts or the Texans find victory in this one? By some miracle the Colts are in a position to get into the playoffs, where absolutely anything can happen.
He returned to practice Thursday and while Pagano remains hopeful Hasselbeck starts – and finishes -the game, Hasselbeck acknowledged that the hardest part has been breathing. “These guys are pros. They get paid to do this and they have to be ready to go”. He practiced last week for the first time since his injury and this has always been mentioned as a potential return date for the quarterback, but it’s far from certain at this point. Yates walked directly to the locker room under his own power after the injury, which came on a non-contact play.
The Texans took a 13-10 lead with 10:36 remaining on Weeden’s 8-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Jaelen Strong, capping a 10-play, 90-yard drive that included a 22-yard pass interference penalty against Colts’ free safety Dwight Lowery and Weeden’s 28-yard completion to wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins. The Texans would trail 10-3 at halftime. Colts’ D’Qwell Jackson (52) defends on the play. All the offense could manage was 10 measly points – and that was a windfall relative to a second half the produced four punts and two turnovers. Hasselbeck has led the Colts to two straight blowout losses with a combined score of 96-26. Benardrick McKinney would end any hope for teh Colts, sacking Hasselbeck at the 1 yard line on 3rd down. They’re 6-8. Barring a miracle, they will watch the playoffs at home in January for the first since 2011.
Teammates praise Hasselbeck: It’s doubtful it served as much consolation considering the abuse Hasselbeck endured at the hands of the Texans, but his teammates appreciated his grit. J.J. Watt and Jadeveon Clowney didn’t go nuts on the stat sheet today, but Clowney in particular is getting better, and as long as he stays healthy, has a chance to really make a difference for this defense very quickly.
This was another game where it looked like a defensive battle, but in reality it is just two completely inept offenses. Novak’s late 32-yard field goal closed it out.
Beckham, who dropped a TD pass on the game’s first possession, has been going at it with the Panthers cornerback and exchanging words – and often swings and pushes – after almost every play. Yates suffered a torn ACL during Sunday’s win over the Indianapolis Colts, a source told NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport.
