Indianapolis bus crash kills 1 adult, hurts 2 children
An adult has died and two children were seriously injured when a school bus jumped a curb on the far northeast side of Indianapolis Tuesday afternoon, reports our sister station WISH.
In a statement on its website, the school said: “District-wide, we will mourn the loss of our beloved Susan Jordan, principal of Amy Beverland Elementary”. “We lost a great educator today”.
Reith told CBS News Radio that the bus driver said Jordan pushed students to safety before she was hit.
They were the same instincts that had guided her for 22 years as the principal of Indianapolis’s Amy Beverland Elementary. They are not thought to have suffered life-threatening injuries. Jordan was helping load kids for ride home, when one of the buses suddenly jumped the curb.
Neither the driver or any of the 25 children on the bus were injured in the crash, according to United States media. “It’s very hard to talk right now”, said Lawrence Mayor Steve Collier, who spoke just after Mayor Joe Hogsett.
The two kids who were injured were outside of the bus at the time of the crash, along with the adult who was killed. Television footage showed anxious parents gathered outside the school.
The accident happened about 2:45 p.m. ET. Two were transported to Riley Hospital. “Tonight, we are all one family”.
Classes will not be in session at the school on Wednesday.
Fox 59 reported that members of the Lawrence Township community posted condolences on social media and expressed appreciation and their fondest memories of Jordan.
