Indianapolis police officer shot, suspect killed after chase
Following the shooting, WRTV says the suspect led police on a high-speed chase for over 30 miles until ending at the intersection of Rural Street and Newton Avenue. He was released from the hospital and needs a follow-up surgery but is expected to make a full recovery, Indianapolis police spokesman Maj.
The suspect then opened fire with a handgun, cops said, missing the officers outside his door.
The shooting also follows recent fatal ambush attacks on police in Dallas and Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The passenger bailed, but Tyson took off. The injured officer was shot as Tyson made a U-turn.
A police officer in Indianapolis was shot in the ankle and another was wounded by flying debris while exchanging fire with a suspect who was ultimately killed following a chase Monday.
The officer was taken to IU Health Methodist Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
The incident began around 6:40 p.m.at a gas station near Georgetown Road and 71st Street after an IMPD officer tried to stop a driver who may have been involved in a crime earlier in the week. “Drawing from her training in first-aid, she immediately located a tourniquet and applied it to the officer’s injured leg, preventing massive blood loss”. The suspect’s name will be released at a later time.

The incident began when police recognized one of the suspects in the auto as being a possible connection to a burglary, according to WXIN reporter Tanae Howard.
When a Taser was used on the man, the gun went off, sending a bullet into the officer’s leg. The officer was hospitalized in good condition. The suspect was fatally struck.
Police say a passenger who fled the suspect’s auto is in custody.
