Indianapolis woman uses sword to subdue intruder
Facebook Karen Dolley, who used her medieval combat training to stop intruder Jacob Wessel, pictured posing with a toy sword.
An Indianapolis woman fought back an intruder with her fists and her sword.
The 43-year-old woman said she awoke around midnight to the voice of a man in her house on Indianapolis’ Eastside.
She spent a few time with The Society for Creative Anachronism, a Middle Ages reenactment group.
After dealing the blows, Dolley, who is 5-feet-6, attempted to reach for her gun but opened the wrong drawer, so instead she held the intruder, who is 5-feet-10, at bay with her ninjato – a Japanese, single-edged ninja sword – and dialed 911. She said she cornered the man with the sword until police responded just minutes later.
Wessel was arrested and faces residential entry charges.
Dolley was sleeping in her home when she woke up and found a Wessel in her living room.
“At the end of the day, I’m glad to know that even if I wake up in the middle of the night, I’m not going down without a fight”, she added to the paper. “You’re expecting it to be louder and see people jerk around, but that’s not how it happens in real life”.
“I definitely don’t need to work on my aggression, I guess”, Dolley told the paper.
Joan of Arc can be history’s most acclaimed sword-wielding girl fighter, but Karen Dolley warrants focus among the here. She fought against men who stood taller than 6 feet and had 20 years experience.
Below is a news report from WTTV, which shows Dolley being awesome, and, as you may have noticed in the pic above, features a brief cameo by her cat.
“I know how to use this”.
She also skates with a roller derby team.
Dolley said she did not think she was hitting Wessel that hard, but the morning after revealed her hands were bruised from the encounter.
