Indians continue dominance of Tigers with 12-1 victory
Cleveland remained ideal in 11 games against Detroit this season with a 12-1 victory Tuesday night. At the start of play, the Indians were in first place in the American League Central by 6 1/2 games over the second-place Tigers – the largest lead this late in the season since Cleveland had a 13-game lead on July 5, 1999…. Cleveland leads Detroit by 7ᄑ games in the AL Central. In that game, Fulmer pitched five innings and gave up five runs and 10 hits. Trailing 7-0, the Tigers reached Carrasco for a run in the sixth but lost Miguel Cabrera in the process. The umpires briefly met and the out call stood. Cabrera has no home runs and one RBI against the Indians in 2016.2.
“I think we’ve been focused against everybody”, said shortstop Francisco Lindor, who along with starting pitcher Danny Salazar was selected to the All-Star Game as a reserve.
Bryce Harper, Jose Lobaton and Ryan Zimmerman homered in the Washington Nationals’ 7-4 win over the Milwaukee Brewers and Michael Saunders’ RBI single in the eighth inning helped the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Kansas City Royals 4-2.
Making a spot start in Zimmermann’s absence, Anibal Sanchez did not exactly seize his shot at redemption. The loss was also the first at home for the Indians since May 31st against the Texas Rangers, breaking a streak of 13 in a row at home.
Yankees 9, White Sox 0: Carlos Beltran had three of New York’s season-high 20 hits in the win. He now has a 1.14 road ERA this season, which is the lowest of any starter in Major League Baseball. At the time it was first and second and nobody out then all of sudden you look up and the inning is over.
Wednesday has a slate of day games that maybe beginning before you take your lunch break. With Kipnis at first and one out, Lindor hit a sinking line drive to right field. And it was a good thing he didn’t stray from his Spartan diet, considering his contributions proved critical in the Tigers snapping an 11-game slump against their divisional foes. It stayed fair long enough to bang into the pole for a two-run homer. Then Kepler homered on the next pitch.
As for Fulmer, Tigers officials probably are breathing a sigh of relief he wasn’t picked despite his current run of eight consecutive starts of allowing one earned run or fewer. That ended when he gave up two runs on Wednesday, although the second was unearned. Twelve runs on 11 hits. Both runs were the result of bad plays made that resulted in a run scoring. Detroit wins 12-2.
Lackey (7-5) allowed six runs – five earned – six hits and five walks in six innings, dropping to 0-3 in his past five starts.
Davies (6-4) allowed two runs and nine hits in 6 2-3 innings. 474 (18-for-38) with three homers and 10 RBIs.
Jeremy Jeffress worked the ninth for his 23rd save.
PHILLIES 5, BRAVES 1: Maikel Franco homered for the third straight game, and Philadelphia hit four overall at home.
Indians: RHP Josh Tomlin (9-1, 3.21 ERA) has won all three starts against the Tigers this season.
By driving in a pair of runs with a double in the seventh inning, Castellanos tied a career-high with five RBIs.
