Indians get Andrew Miller from Yankees, miss out on another All-Star
“I think when it eventually comes out, everyone will understand why”. I’m going to miss him. The general manager said it was not an easy decision.
But Lucroy refused to waive the no-trade provision in his contract, the person said Sunday afternoon.
Lucroy told reporters in Milwaukee he was looking for “long-term gain, not short-term gain”, and that he was concerned about playing time, with Cleveland catcher Yan Gomes signed through 2019.
“It certainly should help us a lot”, Francona said.
When I was going through and picking teams to win divisions or make the playoffs this year in baseball one of the reasons I thought the New York Yankees would make it back to the postseason was due to their bullpen with Aroldis Chapman and Andrew Miller. Indians closer Cody Allen has 20 saves this year and 78 saves over the last three years. The Yankees received a heavy package of prospects including OF Clint Frazier (#1 Indians prospect), LHP Justus Sheffield (#5 Indians prospect), RHP Ben Heller, and RHP J.P. Feyereisen.
Both the cost in prospects and dollars is greater than any the Indians have spent in an extremely long time, completely contradicting reports of insiders, who claimed the Indians would be hesitant to spend any money at the deadline, as they had failed to do in recent years. The club has resisted parting with top prospects in the past, but team owner Paul Dolan and the front office believe this is a year worth going for it.
“I would hope the fan base would be thrilled because so many times when I’m walking around downtown or something, or when I’m walking back from the casino after I just got my ass kicked, people will stop and say something to me and inevitably it’s that kind of comment, like, ‘How come we’re not with the big fish?’ said Indians manager Terry Francona”. “We have a team that we feel is capable of competing in the postseason and, if we get there, has a chance to win”.
“Wherever Tito asks me to pitch, I’ll pitch”, Miller said. They know they’re going to pitch with a lead or if the game is tied at home.
In an attempt to soften the blow over losing Miller, the Yankees quickly announced that they made a deal to bring Clippard over from the Diamondbacks in exchange for prospect Vicente Campos.
Salazar (11-3, 2.97) will start for the Indians against the Twins.
This year’s trade deadline had a weird vibe.
Miller has been an elite reliever for years, and has held an ERA below 3.00 each year since 2012. Right-handed pitcher Tate was the Rangers’ fourth overall pick in 2015, but he hasn’t lived up to expectations so far this season (5.12 ERA and 4.43 FIP in Low-A). Betances was displaced by Miller as closer following 2014 and then displaced by Miller once again when Chapman was acquired in the offseason, moving from closer to seventh inning pitcher in a two-year span. He is 56-54 with a 4.07 ERA in six years in the majors. Not only is he good, but he’s left-handed.
Israel-based reporter David Pick, known for his global connections, posted Sunday on Twitter, “Amar’e Stoudemire agreed to deal with co-owned Hapoel Jerusalem to become best-ever National Basketball Association star in Israel”.
Feyereisen, 23, is 4-3 with a 2.23 ERA and five saves in 33 relief appearances for Akron and was named to the 2016 Eastern League Mid-Season All-Star team. Although he made his debut as a starter, Clippard has since transitioned into a reliever and he could help to shore up the Yankees’ bullpen.
