Indians Refuse To Trade Mike Aviles While Daughter Battles Leukemia
Mike Aviles isn’t exactly the most well-known player in baseball in terms of trade discussions this month. He’ll remain with the Indians for the rest of the season. Aviles’ four-year-old daughter, Adriana, is undergoing treatment for leukemia at the Cleveland Clinc which has caused him to miss time during the season. In this case, the Indians appear to have calculated that Aviles’ struggles would make a relocation too hard.
But though versatile free-agent-to-be Mike Aviles might appeal to some contenders as a useful utility player, the Indians will not be trading him. Aviles is said to have been targeted by other teams. Not with his daughter dealing with the fight of her life….
On Thursday, Indians manager Terry Francona seemed to confirm their intentions. “If Mikey asked to be traded, that might be one thing, but I don’t think, because of the situation Mike’s in because of his family situation, that Chris would ever do that”.
The Indians are willing to listen to trade offers in regard to their pitching staff, namely Carlos Carrasco, per a report from Yahoo! Aviles has twice been placed on the family medical emergency list and once on the league’s restricted list.
