Indicted anti-abortion activist offered probation in videos case
Despite the assertions of the fraudulently obtained and deeply misleading videos, Planned Parenthood does not profit from fetal tissue donations.
The videos sparked national outrage and investigations by state officials and Republican-led committees in Congress. So far, none of the investigations has uncovered wrongdoing by Planned Parenthood. Rick Perry signed abortion restrictions that shuttered clinics under a sweeping law that the U.S. Supreme Court will review next month.
“Policiticans have claimed time and again that our patients can simply go to other health care providers-and tragically, that’s not the case”, Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood Federation of America, said in a statement in response to the new research.
And guess what? That’s exactly what happened, according to researchers with UT’s Texas Policy Evaluation Project, which has been studying the effects of Texas laws curtailing women’s reproductive rights or slashing family planning funding. The mostly conservative state legislature objects to the abortions provided by the organization, which also provides general medical care to its clients.
“I promise Planned Parenthood of Southwest Florida and Central Florida will be cleared as well”, she said. But the activists’ attorneys had made arrangements with authorities to have them voluntarily come from California, where they live.
A member of the New York Police Department stands outside a Planned Parenthood clinic in the Manhattan borough of New York, November 28, 2015. They found that claims for short-term hormonal methods like the pill were about the same, but prescriptions for long-acting contraceptives like IUDs and implants – the most effective, reversible methods – fell almost 36 percent in those 23 counties, while claims for the injection Depo-Provera were down 31 percent.
Without that reliable form of birth control, pregnancies increased and more babies were born, the study authors found. Over 18 months, the proportion of these women who gave birth to a child rose from 7 perc ent to 8.4 per cent in counties that lost a Planned Parenthood. Planned Parenthood stopped accepting reimbursement for these services in a bid to defuse the controversy.
The years of study compared results before and after the state excluded Planned Parenthood affiliates from a publicly funded women’s health program administered by the state.
Bryan Black, a spokesman for the Texas Health and Human Services Commission, said the number of clinics offering women’s health programs had doubled since 2014.
No, the GOP is not using Texas as a giant brothel and its poor women as a repository for their sperm. “We’ve substantially grown our provider network”, Nelson said.
A second anti-abortion activist indicted after making undercover videos about Planned Parenthood is expected to turn himself in to Texas authorities.
State leaders swiftly launched investigations into Planned Parenthood and Congress unsuccessfully tried stripping federal funding. Undercover investigators for CMP David Daleiden and Sandra Merrit were indicted by a Harris County, Texas grand jury after being indicted for the purchase of fetal organs.
Daleiden and a group of abortion opponents were also slated to deliver more than 100,000 signatures to the district attorney calling for the charges against Daleiden and parter Sandra Merritt to be dropped. However, Daleiden and Merritt were charged for allegedly showing the Planned Parenthood clinic fake California driver’s licenses while pretending to be from a research company called BioMax.
