Indo-Pak Foreign Secretary level talks not cancelled: Ajit Doval
READ ALSO: Until we hurt those who give us pain, such attacks won’t reduce: Parrikar On Monday, India linked the foreign secretary-level talks, scheduled for January 15, to Islamabad’s decisive action on the Pathankot terror attack.
The PM told the secretary that we are swiftly carrying out investigations in a transparent manner and will bring out the truth.
According to reports, Doval in an an interview with “Danik Bhaskar” said that India “will talk only if Pakistan takes action”.
The Foreign Secretary-level talks between India and Pakistan to draw a roadmap under the recently announced “Bilateral Comprehensive Dialogue”, have been cancelled.
The team is working in coordination with other superior investigation agencies like Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) while a proposal of establishment of Joint Investigation Team (JIT) is also under consideration.
Indian officials suspect the January 2 attack on the Pathankot base, which left seven soldiers dead, was carried out by the banned Pakistan-based group Jaish-e-Mohammed.
Peace talks with Pakistan will go ahead only if Islamabad acts against those behind the attack on the Indian air base in Pathankot earlier this month, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval said today.
Kerry hoped that talks between both the countries would continue in the interests of regional stability, the statement said.
Nawaz Sharif has spoken to US Secretary of State John Kerry to assure him that Pakistan will investigate the attack. He has conveyed to Mr Sharif that India wants to see urgent action taken against those who conceived and executed the attack.
“It has been speculated that the nascent India-Pakistan rapprochement has been made possible by outside diplomacy, particularly by the USA”, an editorial in Dawn said.
“The unhappy truth is that the Pathankot attack has once again displayed the potential of terrorism to hold the Pakistan-India relationship hostage”.
