Indo-Pak National Security Advisors meet in Bangkok
The Indian and Pakistani national security advisers held “cordial” talks in Bangkok Sunday on militancy and Kashmir, a joint statement said, as the two countries seek a thaw in frosty relations.
“Good to see India and Pakistan resume the dialogue process”, Abdullah said, commenting on the meeting on Sunday in Bangkok between the national security advisers of the two countries.
Issues related to peace and security, terrorism, Jammu and Kashmir, including tranquility along Line of Control (LoC) came under discussion during the meeting, the statement said, adding “it was agreed to carry forward the constructive engagement”.
Omar noted the meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Pakistan counterpart Nawaz Sharif in Paris recently was more than courtesy meeting.
India had some months back called off the national security advisor-level talks and the official reason behind it was disagreement of the two sides on the agenda of the meeting.
The foreign secretaries of the two countries were also present in the meeting in Thai capital. For the record, Indian sources said Bangkok had been chosen because of the “convenience” of both the sides.
Following the brief meeting of both the prime ministers in France, Indian media reports suggested that External Affairs Minister Sushma Swrajaj may visit Islamabad on December 8 to attend a regional conference on Afghanistan.
