Indo-Pak talks: Don’t keep any unrealistic expectations, warns Aziz
Pakistan prime minister, Nawaz Sharif Wednesday said a lot of major world issues were resolved through talks and the process of Pak-India dialogue is all set to go underway once again, media reports say.
Speaking to reporters after the inauguration of a crucial road link in Balochistan, Mr Sharif said: “Goodwill gestures are the solution to many an ill”.
Two days later, India’s External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj participated in the Heart of Asia conference in Islamabad where she also met the Pakistani prime minister’s Adviser on Foreign Affairs, Sartaj Aziz.
A Pakistani court on Saturday refused to entertain a petition against Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent Lahore visit, saying there was no urgency to hear it during winter vacations.
“All issues could be resolved through negotiations”, Sharif said. Thank you for reminding us, Prime Ministers Modi and Sharif.
Modi’s Lahore meeting with Sharif follows their brief huddle in Paris on the sidelines of the Climate Summit, where they agreed on a meeting of their National Security Advisors. Sadanand Dhume, a political commentator, tweeted that following the attacks, Modi’s Pakistan visit looked “foolish”.
He said that the attack on the first day of the New Year in Pathankot is a matter of serious concern and the Opposition party expresses its deep concerns on this evolving situation of the internal security in the country.
“The foreign secretaries would meet on January 14-15 and draw up a map for the next six months for talks on 10 identified subjects”, he said.
India and Pakistan agreed to a comprehensive bilateral dialogue, which had earlier got stalled.
