An Indonesian passenger plane carrying 54 people has gone missing in Papua, investigators have said.
He said the ATR42-300 twin turboprop plane, which was carrying 49 passengers and five crew members, lost contact 33 minutes after taking off.
The plane was flying between Sentani Airport Jayapura and Oksibil in Papua and is said to have lost contact with air traffic control.
This is a breaking news article. It had left Jayapura about half an hour before it disappeared, it added.
“The weather is now very bad there, it’s very dark and cloudy. The area is mountainous”.
Last July an Indonesian military plane crashed in a residential neighbourhood in the northern island of Sumatra, killing at least 130 people.
