Ings And Alli Get England Callups
It’s Roy Hodgson’s decision if he wants to call up Dele Alli.
The Solihull-born 20-year-old turned out for Ireland’s Under-17s as he qualified through his grandparents but his form for Aston Villa has seen him touted as a future England worldwide.
Nineteen-year-old Alli has featured in just eight first-team games for Tottenham Hotspur, who signed him in February from MK Dons, but loaned him back to the Championship club until the summer.
“I just think we’ve got to be very careful how we handle him”, he said.
“I’m disappointed but at the same time, I’m happy with the performance and the effort, that was brilliant”, Pochettino said.
“Both are remarkable young talents who we’ve been watching for a while”. It wouldn’t have been a problem but Tim made it clear that wasn’t a good idea.
Despite playing only seven top flight matches, Spurs midfielder Dele Alli has been called up into the English squad for upcoming friendlies.
“I was keen to point out to him and his father that there are no guarantees”.
Hodgson has also allowed Daniel Sturridge to have this worldwide break off in order that he can be ready for the friendly games against Spain and France next month, which the England manager now regards as more important.
Alli joins Tottenham team-mate Harry Kane in the squad but there is no place for the likes of Danny Rose, Eric Dier or Andros Townsend.
Speaking to the Daily Telegraph after yesterday’s squad announcement (01/10), he said, “I haven’t Googled or used Wikipedia to find out about him”.
Hodgson admits he has been forced to cast his net further because of a lack of depth in the country.
The England boss stressed that Sturridge, who has recently returned to club football after a five-month injury lay-off, will benefit from staying at Liverpool for the next two weeks in, “what is nearly a pre-season”, though he hopes that the striker will be fully fit and ready to return to the squad in November.
England face Estonia at Wembley a week on Friday (9 October) before travelling to Lithuania the following Monday (12 October).
