Injury reports affecting Eagles’ roster — Philadelphia Eagles News
Kiko Alonso finally made his long-awaited debut with the Philadelphia Eagles Thursday night. But Alonso missed the first two games with a concussion before sitting out last week against the Green Bay Packers with tendinitis in his knee.
We saw Mychal Kendricks and DeMeco Ryans suit up against the Packers last week, but new Eagles ILB Kiko Alonso has yet to play this preseason.
Eagles head coach Chip Kelly said he wasn’t aware of which of Alonso’s knees had the tendinitis. “So that’s what we have to go off of with him”.
Alonso said it’s common in patients coming back from ACL surgery.
Outside linebacker Marcus Smith, who injured his hamstring on August 20, said he won’t be ready to play Thursday against the Jets, and he might not even be ready for the season opener September 14 against Atlanta.
At least two of Philadelphia’s key players are active for the Eagles vs. New York Jets game on Thursday night. Kelly said the decision would wait until after practice.
Despite feeling the pain, Alonso believes that he is just being extra careful on how he accommodates himself on the field – and is confident that he will make it on opening day. Kelly was asked if it’ll be hard to evaluate Smith, the Eagles’ first-round pick in 2014, with just one preseason game under his belt.
Lane Johnson should return after suffering a knock on his knee during Saturday’s game, while wide receiver Riley Cooper sat out of practice also with a groin injury but it is said not to be serious.
Second-year kicker Cody Parkey is also active, but it’s unclear if he’s healthy enough to play.
The Eagles have a pair of very good special teamers in Chris Maragos and Chris Prosinski at safety, but ideally, you would not want them playing safety in the regular defense. There’s no truth to the rumor that I came to Delaware in 1998 because the Blue Hens have the same style helmet as the Wolverines.
