Instagram Hits 400 Million Monthly Users, Mostly Outside U.S.
Facebook has steadily become an app powerhouse.
Facebook’s Instagram has reached 400 million monthly active users.
According to Instagram, over 75% of its new 100 million users live outside of the U.S. Over 50 million users are found in Asia and Europe making it clear Instagram’s attractiveness is not an exclusively American thing.
As Instagram continues to grow and prove out its advertising opportunities, Facebook’s $1 billion acquisition looks better and better. Following the news that Instagram had surpassed Twitter in user numbers, the Twitter board member said, “I frankly don’t give a shit if Instagram has more people looking at pretty pictures”. The company has since bought other high profile companies, like messaging service WhatsApp and virtual reality technology maker Oculus VR, and allowed them to run as somewhat independent subsidiaries. Alongside images of sunsets, cats and today’s dinner that many users post, some of the largest brands have begun using it as well. The app also has crowned a new queen. At the beginning of this month, Instagram advertised in eight countries.
