Instagram now lets you search people, places and hashtags on Web
A month after updating the app’s search and explore features, Instagram has brought searchability to their website too. Using the search bar you can search for location tags, hashtags, and other accounts all at once.
Found centered at the top of the page, the Search option will allow users to properly browse through the website, developing an engine that can search for hastags, locations, accounts, trends or popular uploads.
The update has been released worldwide.
“While Instagram.com is designed to be complementary to the mobile apps, it’s important to the global conversations that happen on Instagram“, an Instagram spokesperson said. Starting today, Instagram users are now empowered to search through the service’s vast repository of images with a discovery tool built for the Web.
While Instagram is still a mobile app first, the web is becoming a more prominent part of their presence.
Instagram’s website was started three years ago, but its functionality has been limited. The social network also ditched square-shaped profile photos in favour of more rounded ones, and it now emphasises larger images overall.
Keep in mind Instagram began rolling out a sharper, faster website to all 300 million-plus users in early June. A couple weeks ago it introduced high-resolution photos. Besides amping up search for the Web, today’s new feature will also build out the landing pages for locations and hashtags.
