Instagram surpasses 400 million user milestone, 75 percent of which are
Instagram now has more than 400 million users, the company announced, making it far larger than rival Twitter.
Instagram announced the milestone with a blog post Tuesday, which also revealed that the service’s users share more than 80 million photos every single day.
The number shows that the appeal of Instagram continues to grow despite the platform’s ramping up of its advertising program, the addition of video and end of its square-only format, though the format change was introduced only last month.
The unusually long search has some investors and analysts anxious over the future of Twitter, which has failed to ignite the kind of growth that many had anticipated when it launched its public offering in 2013.
Notably, Twitter cofounder Ev Williams was less than impressed with Instagram’s user growth in an interview with Fortune. More than half of the 100 million newest users living in Europe and Asia with Brazil, Japan and Indonesia adding the most users. Facebook itself is now at 1.49 billion monthly active users, its WhatsApp messaging service stands at 900 million users, and Facebook Messenger is at 700 million users. “Now, we continue to strive to improve Instagram – helping you experience the world through images and connect with others through shared passions”.
