Intel launches new 8th-gen Core CPUs for laptops
The full announcement of the notebook Intel-based Whiskey Lake-U Lake and Amber-Y from different manufacturers will be held in the framework of the exhibition IFA 2018, which will be held from August 31 to September 5 in Berlin. On CPUs intended for larger products-like cheap laptops or desktops-this would be a silly brag.
If you don’t need to buy a new laptop right this second, therefore, it’s probably worth holding out to see if you can pick up one of Intel’s latest CPUs. Both processors are designed for the next generation of 2-in-1 convertibles and ultrabooks to deliver better data speeds over WiFi and longer battery backup while on the go. While power-optimized systems will reportedly achieve a staggering 19 hours on a single charge. That’s pretty impressive, but the number is based on Intel’s own tests. Intel says it plans to work with OEMs to ship systems that use this feature with both Amazon’s Alexa and Microsoft’s Cortana supported.
In the U-series Whiskey Lake family, there’s the i7 8565U, i5 8265U, and i3 8145U. Have a peek at the timeline of other 8th-gen Intel updates in the wide, wide world of processing hardware in the timeline below. That’s a pretty wide spread of potential speed improvements! Otherwise, there’s improved touch and stylus interaction for users who want to sketch, shade and paint with precision on an Amber Lake-powered touchscreen device.
Six chips total were announced today.
Intel Whiskey Lake mobile CPUs have been announced and these CPUs come with optimization for connectivity. Base clock speed comes in at 1.8 GHz with turbo boost up to 4.6 GHz. Thermal design power for the chips weighs in at 15W.
In terms of features, these U-Series chips focus on performance.
Expect a raft of new thin ultraportable devices imminently. The company has stated that these processors are specially made for thin and light laptops. As with the U-series, there are three chips. Speaking of Amber Lake, we’ve got the i7 8500, i5 8200Y, and m3 8100Y entering the line-up, which will all be two-core and four-thread chips.
IFA is now kicking off in Berlin, and e multiple laptop makers will likely announce devices with these chips inside.
Intel is shipping the new processors now, so we’ll see them in laptops this fall from at least a few PC makers.
