Interesting facts about NA-19 Haripur by-election
The Supreme Court of Pakistan had ordered re-election in NA-19 after PTI’s Raja Amir Zaman had challenged PML-N’s Umer Ayaub’s win in the 2013 general elections.
Atleast 60 biometric machines have been delivered to 30 polling stations whereas ballot papers have also been handed over to the district returning officers.
The victory of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate Baber Nawaz Khan would be celebrated by the people on the same venue on August 16 to thank the Almighty for putting the country into right hands, Dr Kirmani said.
According to details, the re-election in NA-19 Haripur will be held on Sunday (today), where the government will experiment biometric system during the polls, for the first time in Pakistan.
A total of 513 polling stations had been set up for 577,480 registered voters in the constituency, 209 of which were declared sensitive and 40 highly-sensitive.
The zeal of the youth in the area favouring the PML-N candidate had already sealed the fate of Dr Aamir Zaman of the PTI, he added.
To ensure a peaceful environment during polling, soldiers of the Pakistan Army had also been stationed in the constituency in addition to policemen, while the local administration had imposed section 144 to ban exhibition of weapons. NADRA, PTA and UFONE will render technical assistance in this regard.
PML-N, PTI and other political parties and independent candidates are holding rallies and public gatherings to muster maximum support of the voters.
