International Midfielder Passes Arsenal Medical Ahead Of Move
Elneny is seen as a tireless box to box midfielder, a great passer of the ball to fit in with Wenger’s quick passing game and a long shot specialist.
Arsenal are in the midst of a midfield injury crisis at present and the arrival of Elneny cannot come soon enough for boss Arsene Wenger, who is now without Francis Coquelin, Jack Wilshere, Mikel Arteta and Santi Cazorla.
Mohamed Elneny is understood to have passed a medical at Arsenal and is on the verge of completing a £7.3m move from Basel.
However the manager does not expect to confirm deals for any new signings in the coming days, offering no update on the Elneny deal in his post-match press conference.
But then we have a problem as the 23-year old is an Egyptian worldwide and as they are fairly low down in the Federation Internationale de Football Association rankings the work permit for him to play in England is not automatic.
“We have not signed anybody and we are not imminently in a position where we can say we have signed somebody”. Sadly we can not announce anything at the moment.
Instead Wenger focused praise on the current incumbent of the anchorman role, Mathieu Flamini, who returned to the side after missing the win over Bournemouth with an ankle injury.
Wenger said the Chile forward might play against Sunderland in the FA Cup next weekend if he proves his fitness in training this week, adding: “Sanchez needs a good rest for the next four days and after that we’ll make a decision”.
