Internet star Fat Jew gets called out for joke theft
A man named Kevin Kelly assembled a Storify post featuring fifty jokes Ostrovsky has posted without attribution alongside their sources, while comedians such as Michael Ian Black and Paul Scheer have spoken out against Ostrovsky on Twitter.
Josh Ostrovsky, 31, from Manhattan’s Upper West side, made a name for himself posting memes on Instagram and performing outlandish antics for his 5.7 million Instagram followers. However, several times, The Fat Jew was accused of plagiarism.
After Ostrovsky signed a deal with top Hollywood talent agency Creative Artists Authority last week, accusations from colleagues grew louder.
Criticism heightened this weekend after joke writer Maura Quint of Someecards.com wrote a Facebook post asking people to stop following Ostrovsky’s account. Owners of the original material are calling out Ostrovsky for plagiarising jokes. “He always credits where he gets his jokes from”. “Neither should other comedians or clever social media people”. “I’m not producing shit so you can make more money off of my work, no one is”, Magwood wrote. This was when people started to really have a problem with his success, even though he already has some other projects going on, like a modeling contract, a wine brand, and is in the process of publishing his own book, “Money Pizza Respect“.
Much of the frustration was centred around the fact that Comedy Central, the home of Inside Amy Schumer, Key And Peele, Broad City and Workaholics had a pilot in development with The Fat Jew.
It seems that all of the social-media wars were over nothing however because a rep for Comedy Central confirmed with E! today that the deal with the network and Ostrovsky was canceled a long time ago.
The report also states that Comedy Central also has no future plans to work with Ostrovsky at this point.
