Inventec to ship Xiaomi’s first tablet in mid 2016
It’s because Inventec, which has previously worked with Xiaomi on many products, is working with Chinese technology conglomerate to manufacture the notebook, and the shipment timeframe is set for the first or second quarter of 2016.
Inventec chairperson, Richard Lee, confirmed the rumours in an interview with news site Taipei Times.
Xiaomi and Inventec’s first laptop is scheduled to make its debut on the first half of next year while the official commercial release is expected by the first or second quarter of 2016. Xiaomi now has 200 million active smartphone users and Lee believes that the laptop will bring about the same level of attention to it. He also said that they will be creating “a different look for their laptops, just like the phones.”, which is referring to the company’s use of premium quality materials and components while still being able to keep it at mid-rang prices.
Lee said the Xiaomi laptop is developed by Inventec’s handset subsidiary, Inventec Appliance, which assembled about 30 million smartphones for Xiaomi past year.
Xiaomi is one of a few companies that were granted license by the Chinese government previous year to operate virtual telecom networks. Earlier this month Bloomberg reported that Xiaomi was hoping to produce a laptop range that would compete with Apple’s MacBook Air range. At this point it is not known whether the notebook will run Windows 10.
Xiaomi has been on a veritable roll since entering the smartphone market in 2010.
Xiaomi continues to enjoy huge success with its smartphone line.
