Investigation after man’s body found near Dundalk
Gardaí are investigating the circumstances surrounding the discovery of the body, aged in his mid 50s, in the Kilcurry area of Dundalk in the early hours of this morning, at approximately 3am.
It’s understood the man in his mid-50s, who’s believed to have been working as a taxi driver, may have suffered a number of stab wounds.
Police have appealed for information over the death of taxi driver, whose body was found after a suspected stabbing in the Republic of Ireland.
The man was pronounced dead and his body remains at the scene which has been preserved for technical examination.
Gardaí were called to the scene at around 3.15am, where they discovered Mr Mulligan’s body on a small country road in the Kilcurry area of Dundalk, just off the Armagh Road and parallel to the M1.
“Garda Superintendent Gerry Curley, Dundalk confirmed the death is being treated as suspicious and appealed for anyone who travelled the road between 2 and 3am to contact them at Dundalk garda station”. It was later removed for a postmortem at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda.
He said no motive has been established yet.
His silver-coloured vehicle, with a taxi roof sign was parked a short distance away.
Family members visited the scene in the morning as news began to filter through of the violent death.
Two cars, including Mr Mulligan’s taxi, were taken from the scene for further forensic tests. “To hear that someone has been stabbed and left to die alone in our locality is horrific”.
