Investigators say Tesla vehicle was speeding at time of crash

There are now 1,000 workers working seven days a week on two shifts in an effort of churning out lithium-ion cells before the end of this year, details The Wall Street Journal.

Once the factory is completed, Musk says the plant will be capable of producing an overall 105 gigawatt hours of battery cells by 2020, or enough to power 1.2 million Model S sedans.

According to their plan, if Model 3 will be out in the market in late 2017 then Tesla will definitely set its sight on the new kind of pickup truck.

Meanwhile, although the vehicle maker is ramping up production for the Model 3’s under-the-hood specs, the interior styling for the new lineup is not left behind.

One of its unique components is its smooth front fascia that was inspired by the Model 3, as well as the good ground clearance and rugged underbody protection. But that is less than one sixth as large as the Gigafactory will be when it is fully compete 3 to 5 years from now. The plant is now importing the battery cells from Panasonic.

Tesla is also building battery packs for its battery storage business in that particular portion of the Gigafactory. Autopilot – in addition to being part of Tesla’s marketing campaign – also provides extra revenue to the still money-losing company as it is sold as an add-on feature. In May, CEO Elon Musk tweeted that anyone that wants their vehicle before 2019 should order now to avoid disappointment. Musk explains that Tesla engineering is focusing heavily on designing its factories to rapidly scale up production, which he believes is essential “to accelerate a sustainable future”.

Construction continues on the new Tesla Gigafactory during a media tour Tuesday, July 26, 2016, in Sparks, Nev. Attendees will be offered test drives, without specifying for which vehicles, and they will offer factory tours before and after “remarks” at 9pm.

A grand opening for the gigafactory takes place this Friday.

Or, as David Keith, an assistant professor at the M.I.T. Sloan School of Management, told Richtel, this is “the first time, possibly ever, that a green product with a significant environmental credentials, has been the thing everybody wanted”.
