IOS 10 beta 4 release notes
Apple will likely release a new public beta containing the emoji later this week, and a worldwide public release will come in the fall alongside new iOS devices.
Users of Apple’s developer version of iOS 10 should see the new emoji included in the iPhone keyboard starting today.
But as part of the latest update, Apple actually removed an emoji.
“This exciting update brings more gender options to existing characters, including new female athletes and professionals, adds attractive redesigns of popular emoji, a new rainbow flag and more family options, “the company said”.
iOS 10 will officially launch in September alongside the new iPhone models. There are also many new emoji that didn’t exist in previous releases for either gender, and all of them are available in a variety of different skin colors.
Apple will also be replacing the revolver gun with a green water gun – which was probably influenced by the level of gun violence now happening in the U.S. However, Apple is not the first to redesign the gun emoji, Microsoft also replaced its gun icon with a toy gun.
Apple is working with the Unicode Consortium to ensure representation of diversity across emojis.
This means you can finally have a female construction worker, weightlifter, police officer, or any other previously male-only emoji.
