Iowa Delegation Unhappy About Joni Ernst’s Speech Getting Pushed Back
Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker told Iowa Republican convention delegates Monday that whatever misgivings they may have had about presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump during the caucus season he is better than Democrat Hillary Clinton even if he was “your 17th choice”.
She also said Clinton didn’t stop terrorist groups, like ISIS, from expanding.
Melanie Trump’s the big speaker, she should have ended the night and keep others short and on time. The Convention, held this year at the Quicken Loans?arena in Cleveland, Ohio, will feature Ernst in a prime-time coverage period on the national television networks.
Ernst is a rising star in the GOP.
Earlier this month, Ms. Ernst met with Mr. Trump earlier this month, prompting speculation she was in the running for vice president.
The tightly controlled nature of modern political conventions is largely meant to prevent the kind of flat notes Ernst, a female military veteran and first-term senator from a swing state, experienced.
After speaking to the delegation, Ernst avoided the four New Hampshire reporters waiting for her at the main entrance to the restaurant where the breakfast was being held. “I can’t imagine that was all off the teleprompter, because it was going to be choreographed more tightly than that”.
“Unfortunately, Hillary Clinton can not be trusted”, Ernst said.
Sen. Chuck Grassley also lauded Ernst’s speech, while complaining that Flynn bumped her out of prime time.
Iowans didn’t blame Trump for Ernst’s delayed appearance, but they had no problem singling out Flynn, saying he could face serious difficulty if he ever campaigned in Iowa’s presidential caucuses. It reflected very conservative stances, especially on social issues like abortion and rights for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community. Ernst took to the stage after the conclusion of the main speech of the night, by Trump’s wife Melania. Bob Dole (R-Kan.), the only living Republican presidential candidate to attend Trump’s convention.
Ernst who has been battling a cold, said she is taking Sudafed, orange juice and hot tea and described tonight’s remarks not so much a moment for her but “a national stage for Iowa”.
