Iowa patrol: two men killed when vehicle struck parked semitrailer – Fairfield, IA
Two people are dead after a crash on I-80 in Cedar County early Sunday morning.
A semitrailer was legally parked on the southern shoulder on eastbound Interstate 80 near the 269 mile marker in Cedar County, according to an Iowa State Patrol report.
The accident occurred around 4:30 a.m. Sunday.
For unknown reasons, a Toyota Scion driven by Gregorio Javier Tapia, 22, of Muscatine, left the roadway and struck the rear of the semi-trailer.
The truck driver, Sonny James Heath, 45, of Monroe, Michigan, was injured but released at the scene.
Tapia and the passenger, 19-year-old Anthony Nunez were pronounced dead on the scene. Both were wearing their seat belt, according to the report.
The accident remains under investigation by the Iowa State Police.
