Iowa Travels To Face The Nebraska Cornhuskers, Wins 28-20

Undisciplined play cropped up again and was devastating to Nebraska.

“Our goals are number one, win the East (Division) because we know we can’t go anywhere without winning the East, and then win the championship game because that is the only way to take that next step, ” Dantonio said.

Jordan Canzeri ran for 140 yards on 17 carries and broke long touchdown runs on back-to-back series in the third quarter on a raw afternoon when a gusty north wind made for a 12-degree wind chill.

The Hawkeyes generated only 250 total yards and were limited to just 44 plays from scrimmage because they went 0 for 9 on third downs.

Nebraska falls to 5-7 and clings to a remote chance of getting a minor bowl bid.

All that helped Iowa remain one of two unbeaten teams.

“You want to win every game, that’s your goal”, Ferentz said. “But we’ve been trying to get there for 17 years”.

With a young team this year, the Huskies (5-6) need a victory over rival Washington State on Friday to reach bowl eligibility. Armstrong led the Huskers on a six-play drive, that included back-to-back completions to Carter for 20 yards or more. Northern beat both Toledo and Western and will face Bowling Green on December 4.

Canzeri ran off left tackle two straight times for two touchdowns, the first one going 29 yards and the second 68 yards for a 28-17 lead.

Bralon Addison caught eight passes for 106 yards and scored four touchdowns for OR, including a 13-yard TD run. Ross’ 3-yard run – his second of the game – tied it at 21.

Jones returned an interception 69 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter, and Gardenhire scooped up a fumble and returned it 28 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Central responded, though, as Rush hooked up with Corey Willis for a 67-yard touchdown pass to cap a busy third quarter. It was those other parts we couldnt overcome.”The Huskers finished with 433 yards, but those four interceptions were killers.“I gave them seven points and put them in great position to, honestly, win the game, ” Armstrong said.

Oregon State (2-10, 0-9 Pac-12) trailed 31-7 at halftime but got within 31-21 in the third quarter.

Cougars quarterback Luke Falk missed the game with a concussion and was replaced by Peyton Bender. The only wins they manage through the first two months of the season were against South Alabama, Southern Mississippi and Minnesota, who regressed tremendously since last season.
