IPhone 7: Samsung won’t make chipsets for new Apple device
One thing we are hoping Apple will add to this years new iPhones is higher resolution displays, we would expect the iPhone 7 to at least feature a full 1080p display.
Samsung and TSMC were sharing supply for the 6th generation iPhones. Samsung and TSMC both supply the processors for the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus. It took charge of manufacturing the Apple A8 chip, while the iPad Air 2 featured the A8X which TSMC also made. The following tests showed that models with TSMC chip operate cooler and offered a superior battery life compared to those with the Samsung chip.
It’s not all that surprising that Apple wants to distance itself from Samsung.
With Apple struggling to make the new iPhone thinner than before, a smaller but still more powerful chip would make more sense for the company. However, not all secrets were revealed and that is why Samsung was not able to manufacture a chip that was equally efficient or better in performance.
iPhone 7 is widely reported to sport dual rear-facing cameras, and in spite of the Apple A9 chipset’s significant capabilities, A10 will definitely be a massive upgrade to the iPhone 7 arsenal.
Samsung now makes upwards of 70 percent of the A9 chips Apple uses in its mobile devices.
Late last month, several Apple suppliers in Asian said they expect revenues and orders to drop this quarter, indicating iPhone sales are nearly certain to post their first annual decline since the flagship product was launched nearly a decade ago.
