IPhone 7S To Feature ‘Cutting Edge’ Long-Range Wireless Charging
If the iPhone 7 really does ditch its headphone jack, and all signs seem to suggest it will, then Apple’s EarPods are due for a serious upgrade later this year.
Another Apple patent from the end of 2015 describes a charging method that allows metal transparent radio signals to pass through the iPhone’s metallic casing.
With the cutting edge wireless charging technology and the all-in-one lightning connector, Apple might further widen the gap between them and their rivals.
Freeing customers from having to carrying around ever-entangled USB charging cables might be a great new selling point for iPhones.
While there is no official word on the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus’s release date, Apple typically releases a new generation of the iPhone around September to November every year. This means that Apple could be about to introduce new wireless charging for its iPhones.
We should note, Bloomberg’s track record is pretty good when it comes to reports on Apple’s plans, but rumors are just that: rumors. Imagine being able to charge an iPhone from across the room while it’s being held rather than having to plug it in or rest it on a charging plate.
Current wireless charging – precisely inductive charging – requires pads, or docks, that have transmitter and receivers. In the past, it has filed for patents around wireless charging technology.
If future Apple handsets do become completely wireless, we can probably expect thinner, sleeker devices. That is perhaps due to some of the disadvantages of wireless charging.
Wireless-charging still feels like it’s a long ways off, but if anybody can take a poorly thought out concept and find a way to make it work, it’s Apple. Still better, as you don’t really need to buy expensive charging mats to do your job!
