IPhone 8 Rumors Suggest Official Name Will Be IPhone Edition
Apple’s 10th anniversary flagship, which is now known around the web as “iPhone 8” or “iPhone X”, could potentially be rechristened “iPhone Edition”, according to a report that was published this morning by the Japanese blog, Macotokara. On the other hand, the more expensive iPhone 8 is expected to be equipped with an edge-to-edge OLED screen, sensors for 3D facial recognition, and much more. It says that Apple has already finalized a few elements of iPhone Edition, such as the inclusion of a 5-inch display, dual cameras, and wireless charging, but is still testing out other concepts (USB-C support or software changes!?). The 5-inch in question here is the usable display that will be spared on the 5.8-inch OLED panel, where the rest will house a function area with virtual buttons. A ideal time for Apple to present the ultimate iPhone device, the iPhone 8. Apple might potentially even use white ceramic.
Citing sources, DigiTimes reports that Apple is planning to combine an algorithm from AuthenTec with glass identification technology from Privaris for the OLED iPhone 8.
Apple’s 10th anniversary is a big deal for the smartphone industry as the company is regarded as bringing a consumer friendly side to smartphones and mobilised the world with their iPhone’s. The regular naming sequence will continue with the iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus.
Apple is expected to announce its new iPad models in March before launching its new iPhone lineup in the fall. This may be one reason for the iPhone 8’s rumored high price. Based on a series of bounces, the iPhone 8 will build a 3D image of the object in front of it. Apple is expected to introduce all the three iPhone variants sometime in Q3 2017 and the iPhone Edition variant is expected to go on sale after the regular iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus. As a quick primer, DVT is one step above EVT and comes into play when Apple finally nails down the exact design and feature-set it wants to ultimately ship to consumers. Considering reports that the iPhone 8 or iPhone Edition as it may be called will sell for $1,000 the name makes a bit of sense.
The good news is that Apple later this year will finally roll out a next-gen iPhone with a completely brand new form factor.
