IPhone 8 to Sport Curved Plastic Display
Korea Herald points to the fact that Samsung Display could produce up to 100 million curved OLED displays for Apple’s upcoming iPhone 8. The unique touch sensing technology helps the phone to respond when users touch any side of the device. The article also mentions that the plastic OLED is the material used for curved panels such as the one the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge possesses.
Common sense tells us Apple is not designing a banana-shaped iPhone, so I suspect the curves the Korea Herald is talking about here relate to a display which curves at all four sides of the iPhone fascia.
Almost all recent rumors suggest that Apple will deliver a curved screen in the iPhone and will use OLED in its next handset. Among the leaks most often found, the presence of an OLED screen on the future apple smartphone. If Apple does manage to design curved OLED screens that are extremely resistant to cracking, it would most likely have a winning device on its hands.
Previously, there were reports that the Apple will not launch OLED display due to supply constraints.
The curved display could give the iPhone 8 a unique feature, as no other smartphone now integrates this design in their phones. The tech company has always been using LCD display but that is about to change with the upcoming iPhone 8 next year. It is all about a new feature that will give the Smartphone an incredible outlook given that it will adorn a plastic OLED screen, which will be all curved.
Rumors suggest that the iPhone 8 will have a long-range wireless capability.
According to Daily Mail, Apple will feature a curved screen on its next products, which is expected to launch in autumn 2017. In an earlier report of The Investor, Hyundai Securities analyst Kim Don-won predicted that Samsung and LG will be launching foldable smartphones next year.
Foldable displays could be an option for the Microsoft Surface Phone, all of which may depend on what the Redmond company introduces in 2017. According to the report, the company recently filed a patent related to “Electronic Devices with Display and Touch Sensor Structures”. Except the repositioning of the antenna lines and additional camera (only in the 7 Plus), everything else looked identical to the previous two generation devices – iPhone 6 (& 6 Plus) and 6s (6s Plus) series.
