IPhone wireless charging set for 2017
In 2010, Apple filed a patent for a wireless charging system that uses “near field magnetic resonance” to transmit power to devices up to a meter away. The company is said to be working on the technology with its partners in the US and Asia.
Wireless charging looks unlikely to make an appearance in the iPhone 7, but speculation points to its being the first Apple smartphone to ditch the 3.5mm headphone jack in favour of Lightning-equipped headphones.
Apple apparently wants to help you charge your iPhone no matter where you are in your home. Rumors suggest that Apple is now working on a next-generation technology that will allow users to charge their iPhones and iPads from a further distance.
Wireless charging is one of the most exciting innovations on phones from the last few years – and it seems Apple feels it’s nearly good enough to put on the iPhone.
Even though the company’s major rivals such as Samsung Electronics and Sony Corporation has already released their versions of wireless technology for smartphones, but their products require positioning in a close radius with the power charger.
Bloomberg says the technology could be ready to go as soon as 2017.
A similar technique, known as induction is now being used by Apple to charge its Watch within millimetres of a power source. There is no sort of confirmation made by Apple regarding the development of the new wireless charging technology. The iPhone maker has already patented a method for making aluminum casings that allow radio waves to pass through, minimizing the impact of metal interference with transmitted signals.
Whenever we put an iPad or iPhone on charge we are restricted to the cable length so it’s not much stress to leave it on a pad.
But don’t go picturing a scenario where your phone is constantly being charged, no matter your location.
