Iran denounces new United States sanctions on missile programme
The deal opens the path to new oil, trade and financial opportunities for Iran in exchange for the country continuing to curb development of its nuclear program.
“We will be committed to the nuclear deal as far as the other side is”, Rouhani was quoted as saying by the state news agency, IRNA, at a meeting with IAEA chief Yukiya Amano.
The White House said its lawyers assessed that the USA could have faced a “significantly higher judgment” if the case continued. Iran defended the tests as a matter of national security.
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani hailed the nuclear deal, which has faced opposition by hardliners at home, as a “golden page” in Iran’s history and said it could be used as a model to resolve other regional issues. USA experts had estimated that Iran would need until March to complete all the work involved in idling two-thirds of centrifuges, exporting almost all of its spent fuel, removing a reactor core and pouring concrete in it….
Meanwhile the head of Iran’s central bank said the country is now able to access 32 billion dollars in unfrozen assets.
In recent years, the US Treasury Department, which is responsible for enforcing economic sanctions against nations, has been infiltrated by pro-Israel neoconservatives, Madsen said during a phone interview with Press TV on Monday.
Iran denounced new economic sanctions imposed by the United States over its ballistic missile program as “illegitimate” and without “legal or moral legitimacy”.
“We welcome news of the release of Jason Rezaian, who should never have been imprisoned in the first place”, said Sherif Mansour, CPJ Middle East and North Africa program coordinator, in a statement. The International Atomic Energy Agency certified Saturday that Iran had complied with the initial requirements of the nuclear deal. “There are just going to be things that come up that will benefit from diplomatic communication between the United States and Iran”, he said.
On Jan. 17 Iran also announced that has started implementation of the Additional Protocol of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
“For instance the IAEA will monitor all stages of Iran’s nuclear activities from uranium extraction in mines to nuclear waste management”, the expert said.
Rouhani, who has promised that 2016 will be a “year of prosperity” for Iranians, said that following the lifting of sanctions Iran would seek foreign investment of $30-$50 billion annually, to dramatically spur growth to eight percent. The U.S. will also drop Interpol “red notices” – essentially arrest warrants – on about 14 Iranians outside the U.S, according to The Washington Post.
