Iran Nuclear Deal Agreement Won’t Affect India’s Basmati Rice Exports, Say
Other portions of the agreement include a promise by the United States to help Iran combat nuclear sabotage and threats to its program.
WASHINGTON: With the USA sealing a deal over Irans nuclear program, the Obama Administration has said countries like India and Japan have paid an economic price for sanctions against the Islamic republic and they may no longer feel obliged to do so if the pact is scuttled by the Congress. US National Security Advisor Susan Rice has argued that if the deal is not approved by the Congress, countries like India and Japan would no longer be obliged to enforce USA sanctions against Iran.
CNN’s Wolf Blitzer asked Rice.
“Iran will increase the number of designated IAEA inspectors to the range of 130-150 within 9 months from the date of the implementation of the JCPOA, and will generally allow the designation of inspectors from nations that have diplomatic relations with Iran, consistent with its laws and regulations”, the deal states, according to text released by the Russians and Iranians. “The IAEA will be doing the inspections on behalf of the USA and the rest of the global community”. “India continues to meet 90 per cent of Iran’s basmati needs and we should easily export 1 million tonnes rice this year”, said Vijay Setia, former president of the All India Rice Exporters’ Association. That’s probably the most likely means… “We of course are a rare exception”.
“”We remain prepared and postured to bolster the security of our friends and allies in the region, including Israel; to defend against aggression; ensure freedom of navigation in the Gulf; and check Iranian malign influence”, Carter said in a statement”. It will be endorsed by the world via the UN Security Council resolution. “But there was no end to USA concessions”.
“Iran – which for two decades and for the duration of the negotiations, cheated and swindled the worldwide system, strives for regional hegemony by, among other things, spreading uninhibited terror, directly and indirectly – is now rewarded with a tail wind that endangers the world’s peace”, Ya’alon said, referring to the recent deal. What do we think they’ll spend that money on?
Rice said she believes that “for the most part” Iran will spend the unfrozen money on the “Iranian people and their economy which has tanked”. “I guess we should be grateful they’re not solving this problem by opening up a USA embassy in Tehran”. “All of those steps have to be taken”.
