Iran president: Nuclear deal example of conflict resolution
“The lack of compliance of the United States with the JCPOA in the last several months represents a flawed approach”, Rouhani said Thursday, addressing the annual opening of the U.N. General Assembly, using the acronym for the Joint Comprehensive Plan Of Action, the formal name for the deal that traded sanctions relief for a rollback of nuclear development in Iran.
President Rouhani lauded the vision of the Prime Minister for translating CPEC into a reality and expressed his desire to be part of the CPEC. He also appreciated China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and wished that Iran could also be part of it. “The two leaders reiterated the complementarity between Gwadar and Chabahar sea ports that could boost regional trade exponentially in the decades ahead”, said a press release of the Pakistan Mission to the United Nations on Wednesday.
There is potential for development of co-operation in the field of information and communication technologies, nano and biotechnology, food production, energy, water management and others, according to the statement.
They noted progress on Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline and electricity import from Iran would help overcome Pakistan’s energy shortages in the coming years. The Prime Minister shared the latest situation in Kashmir, which continues to remain tense in the wake of the uprising that has surfaced in response to Indian attacks in the Valley.
He said security is a global issue and underlined that during the past years the world powers have been advancing different methods of “repression and military intervention” under the pretext of removing security concerns for their people.
Iranian business can also find excellent conditions for the European market, taking advantage of the conditions of Bulgarian industrial zones and the country’s favourable tax system, Plevneliev said.
Describing Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) as the symbol of dialogue and cooperation in worldwide stage instead of disagreements, President Rouhani told UN Secretary-General that preserving and bolstering JCPOA is all parties’ duty, as well as the United Nations’.
“Our interests are same; we need to further consolidate our economic cooperation”, the prime minister said.
However, his visit was postponed by Tokyo to what officials said would be a “more appropriate time”.
Congressman Jeb Hensarling said, however, that the bill is “important for us to clearly understand the assets” held by Iranian officials.
Rouhani was otherwise bullish on the deal, saying Iran’s economy had improved – an implicit rebuke to hard-liners in his country who said the deal was not worth it.
