Iran says Arak reactor not yet decommissioned, work ongoing
The historic nuclear accord with Iran, dubbed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, was negotiated for months and finally signed by Iran and the U.S., UK, Russia, China, France (the P5) and Germany (+1) on 14 July, 2015.
Coons said a key part of the trip was to reassure allies, including Israel, Turkey and Saudi Arabia, that the us doesn’t intend to withdraw from the Middle East and doesn’t intend to embrace Iran as a new regional ally over its traditional regional allies.
The desire to get the money, which Iran desperately needs to rebuild creaky infrastructure and pay off debts, has propelled Tehran to move speedily in fulfilling the promises it made in Geneva in July. Existing sanctions against Iran are due to be eased in the coming weeks under the terms of the nuclear deal.
The agreement does not restrict Iran’s ability to improve its strategic missile arsenal, but the UN Security Council resolution that gives it worldwide force does forbid the Islamic Republic from launching nuclear-capable ballistic missiles.
“We have full capacity to respond to violations of other agreements regardless of the Iran (nuclear) deal, ” she said.
“In a few days, we will see the end of the cruel sanctions against Iran”, President Hassan Rouhani said in a speech in southern Iran.
In December, the administration sent Congress a list of people carrying out “nefarious actions” in the region, including actions related to the ballistic missiles, White House Chief of Staff Denis McDonough noted on Fox News Sunday.
The legislation appears dead on arrival should it reach the White House, however, which has strongly opposed efforts to dismantle or hollow out the nuclear pact.
What Iran is trying to accomplish over the course of implementation is to expand the benefits by claiming that costs imposed for unrelated bad behavior violate the JCPOA.
The House voted 269-162 to reject the deal, Gillibrand was among Senate Democrats who filibustered it. New York Sen.
The Obama administration suggested late past year that it was preparing new sanctions against individuals tied to the Iranian regime’s missile program, before walking back those statements. Earlier last week they were briefing at The International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna, Switzerland on Iran’s nuclear compliance.
“Implementation of JCPOA will finish in the next seven days”, he added.
“We will issue those (sanctions) and those designations at the appropriate time”. IRNA quoted an unnamed senior official at the national nuclear agency, who said the reactor core would be removed in a matter of days.
Coons’ comments come as Democratic lawmakers are joining Republicans in calling for additional pressure and the Obama administration to take a tougher posture against Iran.
