Iran: US statements on attacking Tehran violates nuke deal
Israel is a harsh critic of the deal and says it is keeping all options open to prevent Iran from getting nuclear weapons.
“I hope that Senator Cotton had a pleasant trip to Vienna, but his travel was not necessary to learn the information he claims to have obtained”, said White House press secretary Josh Earnest.
“The merits of this agreement hinge on its verifiability”, said Sen.
“Without that baseline, inspections can’t be effective”, Cotton said.
“We will check the name of the inspectors first and will refuse those who have negative deeds against Iran“, Esmail Kosari, member of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Parliament, told Trend July 31.
“According to the IAEA rules and practices such documents could be made available to the Members of the IAEA Board”, Olli Heinonen, a senior fellow at Harvard University’s Belfer Center for Science and worldwide Affairs and the IAEA’s former Deputy Director-General for Safeguards, wrote to Business Insider in an email. These documents are not public.
“The IAEA is an extremely competent organization” that can verify that states that have no diplomatic relations with the U.S., such as Iran, are honoring their commitments, Moniz said.
“I have spoken with many members … and I think what it has led them is to sharpen their questions and hopefully for us to sharpen our answers”. John McCain, R-Ariz., to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., have also sounded opposition, saying Iran presents a special case.
The probe supposedly to be conducted by the worldwide Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) into Iran’s Parchin military complex, which is suspected to be a nuclear site, is included in the nuclear agreement ironed out between Iran and the major world powers. “Iran is a big screamer for more confidentiality”.
When pressed further during Wednesday’s Senate Armed Services Committee hearing, Secretary Kerry said the administration would share in a classified briefing what they believe the agreement consists of, but that he respects the “process of the IAEA” and that he doesn’t “have their authorization to reveal what is a confidential agreement between them and another country”. “When we’re talking about a country that has constantly and consistently violated any normal agreements, then it’s not acceptable”.
