Iranian drone flew over US carrier in ‘unprofessional’ move – US Navy
The 10 U.S. Navy sailors detained by Iran after their two small boats allegedly drifted into Iranian territorial waters around one of Iran’s Persian Gulf islands a day earlier have been freed, the United States and Iran said Wednesday.
Shockingly, Cmdr. Kevin Stephens acknowledges that an Iranian drone flew “directly over” the US Harry Truman on January 12th as the vessels were in the Persian Gulf.
When US vessels supposedly wound up in Iranian waters (though there’s no way to know whether this is true since it’s clear by now that Obama and his cronies will tell any lie on behalf of Iran), the Shiite terror state seized American sailors at gunpoint and degraded them, even they obviously posed no danger.
5th Fleet would not confirm the authenticity of the Iranian footage over Truman saying that there is plenty of publically available video of US carriers.
The USS Harry S. Truman is in the Persian Gulf to aid the fight against the Islamic State group in Iraq and Syria.
An Iranian submarine was also deployed to the area on Friday and took pictures of the drone and the US carrier, the semi-official Fars news agency reported. The drone and submarine operations are part of an Iranian Navy exercise being mounted this week.
The Iranian naval forces had been conducting several drills this month, officials said, during which Tehran also reportedly tested a Noor cruise missile.
“The UAV was unarmed and posed no risk to the carrier’s flight operations”, said Navy spokeswoman Lieutenant Commander Nicole Schwegman in an e-mailed statement.
Iran struck a nuclear deal with world powers, including the US, past year to limit its atomic program in exchange for the lifting of crippling economic sanctions. Iran has more than 2,000 kilometers (1,240 miles) of shoreline facing the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman.
Past confrontations have been far worse.
“The Navy’s drone captured a video during the surveillance mission over the USA aircraft carrier”, read the Fars report.
A few months later, in July 1988, the USS Vincennes in the strait mistook an Iran Air flight heading to Dubai for an attacking fighter jet, shooting down the plane and killing all 290 passengers and crew onboard.
