IRGC rejects rocket test near United States warships
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps launched denials Thursday that it fired test rockets near a USA aircraft carrier and protested the upcoming sanctions, which the us recently announced as a response to the apparent test-firing.
Meanwhile, a senior US official told the AP that America is considering designating a number of additional targets for sanctions related to Iran’s ballistic missile program.
“The publication of such false news under the present circumstances is akin to psychological warfare”, Sharif was quoted as saying by Reuters.
Iranian and United States forces have clashed in the Gulf in the past, especially during the Iran-Iraq war in the 1980s after the 1979 Islamic revolution.
For its part, Iran has tested a long-range guided ballistic missile, escalated its cyberespionage program against the US, and cracked down on journalists, activists and opposition figures.
Some U.S. critics of the deal have said the Iran cannot be trusted to comply – however proponents of the deal say Iran’s actions can be verified and that progress seems to be on track.
On Wednesday, US military spokesman Kyle Raines said rockets had been fired about 1,370m (1,500 yards) from two US vessels and a French frigate, in a “highly provocative” act.
Tabnak said that Western news reports about the episode were an attempt to “undermine Iran’s capability to provide regional marine safety”.
A French military official, speaking to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity as he was not authorized to speak publicly, confirmed the rocket fire took place Saturday. The development seems to indicate that the historic arrangement between the US and Iran appears to be on the right track.
The shoot-down of the jet came shortly after the US vessel reported coming under fire from Iranian speedboats. Taraghi has long expressed the view that the nuclear deal did not signal a transformation of the long-strained relations between the United States and Iran.
Board members of the United Nations nuclear agency on Tuesday adopted a resolution to close the investigation into whether Tehran once had a nuclear weapons program, upon a review of Iran’s implementation of its commitments under a nuclear deal endorsed by the UN Security Council in July.
The nuclear deal was heralded by moderates, such as Iran s President Hassan Rouhani, who staked his reputation on the negotiations.
