Irish mother-of-three going blind because of her Red Bull addiction
We all know that too many sugary drinks are bad for you, but one young mum is learning this lesson the hard way after her Red Bull habit made her seriously ill. Lupari, who says she was unaware of the damage she was doing to herself, was consuming more than 3,000 calories per day, and that was just from the energy drinks.
Red Bull have not commented on the woman’s claims.
In the hospital, doctors diagnosed her with idiopathic intracranial hypertension, a disorder that causes increased pressure in the skull.
“I used to drink 28 cans of Red Bull in a day and I’d only have a meal at night but it would usually be something fast-food like a takeaway or a packet of pasta”, she said. The addiction affected her brain so badly that she was unable to lift her head and was hospitalised for six days, Mirror.Co.uk report said. Lupari said that she doesn’t have time to make anything because she takes care of her three young kids, one with special needs.
Common symptoms include severe headaches and changes in vision due to swollen optic nerves. Lupari has lost 28 pounds so far by cutting Red Bull out of her diet completely.
Having already stated that she doesn’t want a gastric band fitted, or to have surgery, Lupari has called for the NHS to help her lose the weight through “something like a bootcamp”.
“I think they should offer help to someone with this problem to motivate them into losing weight, something like a boot camp”, she said.
The woman said that if she loses weight, it doesn’t mean it will go away forever, but it does mean she won’t need surgery.
