Irish Times: Police seize passports from Irish Olympic officials
Police arrived at the OCI’s offices in the Olympic village and its accommodation outside the village on Sunday morning, where they met staff.
“The OCI personnel were asked to present for questioning at a local police station on Tuesday”.
According to RTE, a further three people whose passports are to be seized have been named on court documents.
Brazilian police raided Irish Olympic officials on the last day of the Rio Games on Sunday, seizing passports, computers, mobile phones and unused tickets in a rapidly expanding investigation into allegations of an illegal ticketing scam.
The 71-year-old was detained at a hotel in the Barra da Tijuca area on Thursday and later taken to Samaritano hospital with chest pain before he underwent cardiac tests. “Agents are conducting investigations since this morning which will continue until Tuesday”.
The probe has already led to the detention of International Olympic Committee member Pat Hickey, who is being held at Rio’s notorious Bangu prison.
Irish media said 3 officials had their passports seized.
Former Olympic Council of Ireland (OCI) president Patrick Hickey was arrested in connection with the alleged illegal sales on Wednesday.
The ticket case has come as an embarrassment for the IOC. He has not criticised or supported the Irish official.
Pat Hickey is in a maximum security prison in Rio after being arrested in the investigation.
It also said all six are prohibited from leaving the country, in a decision that complied with orders from the Public Ministry.
Tickets, including for the Rio opening ceremony, with a face value of about $1,400 dollars were offered for sale at $8,000.
They also arrested Irishman Kevin Mallon, a director of THG Sports, which specialises in corporate and sports hospitality and has been held since. Tap the button below on your phone to add!
